"God is the unity of brethren. He is what holds people together." |
WHEN THE LAND OF Canaan was split between the twelve tribes of Israel, Judah was made to share Jerusalem with Benjamin. There is a reason. Read Genesis 37 to 45 for all the details. But in short, when Benjamin’s life was in the balance, and it looked like he’d be lost in Egypt, Judah said, “Take me instead,” and in that moment, undid all the hate and enmity which had separated his brothers. Because of his actions, forever Jerusalem is both Judah and Benjamin, united.
This has not changed. The Jews of Israel know this, and though the city is divided into sectors today, it remains the city of Benjamin and Judah. God’s covenant there cannot be erased. He who promised them their land is God of them still, and they are forever His people. Jesus is King of Jerusalem, King of Israel, and King of Kings.
This land here is the UNITED States. Our unity was established when a group of God-fearing men and women, standing on the shores of Virginia, pledged their lives to the God of the Jews. Although there were doctrines they believed which were outside of Scripture, their hearts were seen by the God of Israel, and He honors their words still. You cannot undo someone’s prayer. You cannot break a covenant pledged by those gone on before. Did Abraham’s descendants stray? Yes, but his covenant with God is the reason we are children of God. The Law which was put into effect some 400-plus years later did not annul God’s covenant promise. Instead, it embraced it, and it committed Him to our salvation.
“Tell the world, Israel, ‘His love never quits.’” (Psalm 118 MSG)
Because Abraham offered his son, Isaac, on the altar, believing that the God of covenant would resurrect him, if need be, God could offer His Son, Jesus Christ, the Messiah of the Jews, the Christ of Israel, and fulfill all points of the covenant and the law. The Law being fulfilled opened the way for the New Covenant to be pledged in Jesus’ shed blood. His blood is the unity of both covenants, and the New Covenant is the unity of all believers. There is no more Jew and Gentile, male and female, bond or free in God’s eyes. Not to annul genders nor nationalities. That is not God’s meaning. But that all the hatred and anger and violence are done away with. We are all on equal footing in Him.
There are no Democrats, Independents, and Republicans in His eyes. We are all Americans. The devil has created a chasm, or it seems so, but God is the unity of brethren. He is what holds people together. His love is immeasurably great to all. He died for WHOSOEVER, and that means everyone. We have no factions, separate groups with separate leaders which war against each other. Though there is Apollos and Paul and Peter in the ekklesia, all are Christ’s. Though there was Washington and Lincoln and Jefferson, there is Florida and California and New York State. There are the Stars and Stripes.
“What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Ministering servants [not heads of parties] through whom you believed, even as the Lord appointed to each his task: I planted, Apollos watered, but God [all the while] was making it grow and [He] gave the increase.” (1 Corinthians 3:5-6 AMPC)
Our differences unite us, not divide us. As the tribes of Israel live on the same plot of land as brothers descended from one man, Abraham, though we citizens of these United States be from many places over long generations, it is God’s covenant with us that holds us together. This cannot be set aside, even if some do not believe in it. Nor will any man in any position, government, news cycle, military, businessman, or otherwise rewrite the history that has created us.
Those who died for Israel, still call out to Jehovah from the ground. Those who died for the United States, are all known by God and honored by us. They gave so we are. We honor their sacrifice with our unity, by refusing to let go of the values they died for that set us in place, that make us who we are. We are “one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all” because of God has made us so.
Our Father gave His only begotten Son because we are loved. Through Him, we are healed, delivered, and victorious. And for Him, we stand with Israel and pray for the peace of Jerusalem. This is asked of us in the Scriptures. This was given us by Him when we were created as a nation, and for this, and for the gospel He died to reveal to us, we forever be the land of freedom in the eyes of the world.
He is freedom, so we are free. He is the Prince of peace, so we are a place of peace. He is King of nations, so we believe with eyes of faith in His heart for our prosperity. We live united, not based on what the demonically charged world spouts about our future and against our King, but on what He has proven in His blood is enough for our healing. He is enough.
“Thus saith the LORD of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities: And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also. Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.” (Zechariah 8:20-23)
