Error and Truth

"... who even when He is silent is working on our behalf."

WHAT DO WE DO with wrong doctrine? I had the Holy Spirit drop a man’s name in my heart one morning a few years ago. No one I knew or had heard of. But when I searched for him, I found out he was a minister from a particular denomination and had already passed on to heaven. I clicked on one of his sermons and was immensely blessed. So I clicked on another sermon, and the first words out of his mouth were intensely unscriptural. What do we as individuals do with what we’ve heard when we know it to be wrong? “Wrong” meaning according to the Word of God.

First, we are to be continually walking in the Spirit, being led of the Spirit, being “in step with,” or aware of His presence and His ways, methods, and character. Because He is close to us, within us, and upon us, we can call on Him and hear Him reply. Many have said, “God spoke to me,” or “The Lord said to me,” and had a revelation from God for their understanding. But there is no limit to this in size or scope or language. From one glory (our position in His presence) we can move up higher into another glory (another position). We can desire to go deeper and give ourselves to the secret place more and receive weightier revelations. There is no limit in God. This closeness to Him brings the answer to our questions, to any question, and prevents us from falling into error either in what we hear or what we speak.

I hear things taught all the time that are wrong. I do not say this out of pride, but circumstances forced me toward God. They caused me to go further than I’d ever dreamed. He is near me, as Paul’s epistle says. It is from this position IN HIM that I realized the error and realized the truth. It is from this position also that I have such great faith for continued blessing in my life. I will not settle for half-healing, for some affliction, or for a little poverty. I do not accept the failing of any portion of my life but instead will live out the remainder of my days mobile, mentally healthy, and without worry or fear of lack or destruction in my family or to my daughter. How high have we set our personal standard of living? Do we truly believe God is FOR US, or are we settling for a little sickness and a little pain, some straying of our kids, and what we call “the normal aging process” that is usually the devil’s work?

I have seen hell, and I refuse to open the door to it. Even if the circumstances in our nation, state, or county look otherwise. Even if it is preached to me from the pulpit, and I speak of no one in particular here. But there are those who dwell too much in the mind for their sermons and not enough on the heart of God. I say this because He is writing through me here. Here is a simple truth He has pressed on ne personally. He asked me to stop saying “the Lord” this and “the Lord” that but to call Him by His name – Jesus. So I dropped “the Lord” whenever possible. I have already revealed I call the Holy Spirit “Papa,” This came about because I needed Him as my Father and He replied to me in that way. It isn’t meant as sacrilege. I have the greatest respect and reverence for Them. (I will not say ‘fear’ because that word will never settle in me again.) It is that They are God, and this includes the Father who is by far the gentlest one among Them.

A minister said this morning in what I was listening to that though Jesus is gentle and happy, we must see Him as a warrior as well. And this is true. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, but He has no fear or worry in Him about the work of the enemy nor the future. He is not planning a fierce battle to destroy all demonic forces. Death will not wipe out death from the Father’s right hand. Instead, it is that Jesus defeated all demonic powers, yes, even the devil Himself, took back the keys of death, hell, and the grave, and will one day consume all sickness, weakness, and distress of the mind, the body, and all that is remaining on this planet. The Spirit will breathe, and it will not exist.

Now, where there are battles, they are the flesh and the mind warring with the things of God in us and for us. For us when we are on the wrong path, preaching the wrong thing, teaching in error (though well meant). For those who are not in God’s family but whom God loves with all His heart. And the authority to overcome these battles is found in God. The power or ability to overcome them is found in the Spirit, who even when He is silent is working on our behalf. We are not waiting for Him to move. As my mother once said, “The Holy Spirit isn’t in a lounge chair. He’s working.” But there is often no need for us to be hearing every word or following every action, only those which He presses upon us, and for some, that is simply accepting Jesus as their Savior. This first step leads to others which, again, take us higher and deeper in God to the place where I have only begun to stand, inward looking outward, completely dependent upon God for even the breaths that I breathe.

“Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Zechariah 4:6)

“If we are living by the Spirit's power, let our conduct also be governed by the Spirit's power.” (Galatians 5:25)
