| "Please, God, let that be me." |
NO ONE HAS to get sick. Jesus’ death and Resurrection guarantees it. But to walk in a place of fullness of health, actually expecting to stay that way, requires making Him Lord. It means He’s in first place, to the extent you are so full of His Presence and His Word that you lose interest in other things. Mom tells a story of a woman whose friends noticed she was always in good health. When they asked her the secret, she said she had no time for being sick. “Jesus is my Healer.” We leave the mental door open for us to catch things, living as that being expected. But God who can raise the dead, the very dead, speaking of Jesus, is our safety.
Psalm 91:13 in the Knox Translation says, “Thou shalt tread safely on asp and adder, crush lion and serpent under thy feet.” The picture is that we can walk wherever we need to and whatever would come against us to harm us, can’t. This is God’s promise in the Jew’s Covenant, so He’s always felt that way. He hasn’t changed (Hebrews 13:8). Jesus came to earth to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8), “the devil” being sin and its works, sickness and disease and death.
Raise your expectations. Increase your trust in Hashem. I’ve had enough sickness, enough pain, enough mental weariness. God didn’t pull me out of that dark place in order for me to fall into any other physical trauma. His heart is for me to stay well. And so that is my confession.
I will not agree with you if you say otherwise. It isn’t normal. It isn’t what “happens to everyone.” Or the result of aging or genetics. And I have advice from the Spirit: we will only live above it when we put His Word in our hearts. There’s that story, again, of the woman who had read Acts 10:38 so much that, at the grocery store, when the clerk said, “That’ll be $10.38,” she replied, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
Please, God, let that be me. And let my trust in your covenant promise of health be so strong it changes the lives of others who are suffering.
We must listen to the Spirit speaking. I cannot get away from this because so many say they hear Him that are speaking their own reasoning. But in everything we plan to do, everything we desire to do, we need His okay first. He will keep us from difficult places if we’ll listen and heed Him. And I’m not talking fear. He is not the spirit of fear. 2 Timothy 1:7. He is love that casts out fear (1 John 4:18), the power of Resurrection (Philippians 3:10), and a sound mind. We must know this first. I like what Pastor Paul Yonggi Cho said of the Holy Spirit, too. That we must stop treating Him like an acrobat, here to perform a duty. No, He is our Lord. He is the Sword OF THE SPIRIT, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17), who is JESUS. It will pay us great strength and revelation to treat God and the things of God as a Person speaking and working and not as objects we have in our wallet.
This life of salvation is about relationship. It’s knowing them, as we know our parents, our spouse, and our children. We can talk to Them freely and hear a clear response. This is to COME UP HIGHER, as the Scripture commands (Luke 14:10). Going higher means letting go of what’s lower and allowing God to change our likes and dislikes to be like His. We must see our behavior, our anger and depression, as what is wrong and be constantly seeking His perspective. Because, the truth is, we’re never going to change God to fit where we are. It is that we change, we grow up, and see things like Him now. Those old habits no longer bother us, and we walk free.
I will walk in complete health from now on. No plague will come nigh my dwelling. Psalm 91:10. Not COVID nor any other manmade or natural virus, disease, or accident will harm my family. These are the words of God’s covenant. And I believe Him.
