Ourselves

"This life isn't about you."

IF THE blind follow the blind, they’ll both end up in the ditch. These are Jesus’ words in Matthew 15:14. He is who we must follow. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).

His Voice is precious to me, and so I ask you this. Why do you put words in His mouth that He would never say? Why the posturing, as if He’s peeved or angry or short-tempered? Why do you take His Word and make it fit your misunderstanding? God is love. Jesus died because He SO LOVED the world. John 3:16. Perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). Yet, you have prejudices against people for ungodly reasons. If you knew Him, you wouldn’t think that way.

He is peace (John 14:27). If you knew Him, you’d preach peace. You’d highlight Him and step out of the spotlight yourself. You’d see John’s Revelation as God’s character, as no more death, no more sorrow (Revelation 21:4), and you’d know the persistent vision of it as violence is wrong, all wrong. Why do you paint Him that way? Why do you condemn men’s hearts, their intents that you can’t see (Hebrews 4:12)? You joke about who will make the rapture. That’s not like Him at all. You should recognize, instead, His mercy. He extended it to you. Why not to them?

You should hear Him speaking clearly of what He came to earth to do and be humble, never saying an arrogant word. This life isn’t about you. It’s about Jesus saving the lost. It’s about God rescuing a dying planet full of dying people. Dying spiritually. Man minus God is errors in judgment, in reasoning, in choices. Dying physically. Our only “enemy” now is sin. Preacher after preacher after preacher keep making Satan wise. Omnipresent. When did he gain anything because of sin? What did Jesus accomplish if that is so? Last I checked, by His stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24). Something in both the Jew’s covenant and ours. Last I checked, Jesus destroyed the devil. Destroyed the works of the devil and abolished death.

  • John 16:11 – judged
  • Hebrews 2:14 – destroyed
  • 1 John 3:8 – destroyed
  • 2 Timothy 1:10 – abolished
  • Colossians 2:15 – triumphed

WE ARE NOT IN A WAR. Jesus died on purpose, by choice. There was no battle, no battlefield, no weaponry. And when death had done all death could do, LIFE CAME. God made His mutilated body whole and raised Him from death. His death saved the Jews. His Resurrection saved the world. His triumph ruined the devil. Our accuser now is ourselves. Every time we open our big, fat mouth, we speak disease, decay, death. Our words keep what’s going wrong in front of our eyes. We wonder why we’re not happy. We blame God. We self-design prophecy. We hear our own heads and say it’s the Holy Spirit. “This sermon came right from the Spirit.” No, it didn’t. God doesn’t speak that way.

Men are writing books full of themselves and minus Truth. Men, who are exceptionally generous with their money but unlike Jesus with their words. I’d rather say nothing than hurt Him. I’d rather be nothing than outshine Him. I’ve put my will in the backseat and now measure each step. Because The Jesus I Know Now is tenderhearted and so amazingly kind. Meek and Lowly (Matthew 11:29).

He’s nothing like the church.
