In Everything You Do

"He should be our attention."

DO WE hunger for God, for Jesus, for the Father and the Spirit? Is our desire for them our love for them? Or are we hung up on manifestations? Can we hear Him at home in our secret place, during quiet prayer? Or is our experience limited to public displays? Why does God make public displays? Not for attention. Not even to make a point. It’s more that He is God.

Our motive matters. His is pure. Holy. We’re looking for emotional highs, something to talk about. “Did you hear what happened at …?” He’s looking for humbleness, for trust in Him, for patience. About patience, if God is merciful, then why doesn’t He just heal the man whose doubt is like the waves of the sea? A different question: Why do we read God’s point-of-view as Him giving a cold shoulder?

God does many things behind the scenes. One minister said it this way, “When we all get to heaven, we’ll find out how much God did that we had no idea.” That image is more like God. He gets the attention. He should be our attention. But He doesn’t need it to substantiate who He is.

What He did for me, no one will fully know. My heart isn’t to talk about me but His image, His desires, and to urge people, taught to worship like I grew up being taught to worship, to step off the path of conformity and carnal thinking and walk in the Spirit, led of Him. To talk to Jesus. And in everything you do in the church, in study of the Word, which IS Jesus, in worship of Him, to remember you are grafted into Israel’s root.
