The Right Thing

"God heals our thinking."

ALL REVELATION comes from the Holy Spirit. All of it. If it is accurate and Truth, He revealed it to you. If it isn’t, it came from the mind and reasoning. What He speaks brings peace, comfort. What brings fear is our misunderstanding. And this goes to John’s Revelation a great deal. I remember a movie we were forced to watch in youth group when I was 16. It frightened me so badly I swore I would never listen to that kind of teaching. And I didn’t until in my fifties. That only happened because I wanted to prove I was right. Now, I have laid the topic at Jesus’ feet. Interestingly enough, because I don’t fear it and don’t seek it, He speaks of it, and one day, chose the chapter used to create the movie to give me one simple Truth: It’s already happened. Which brings me back to my initial sentences.

Revelation of the Word of God must be sought by us. If the moviemaker had known Truth, they would not have created the movie. It is not a forward event at all but a backward one. Much of John’s Revelation isn’t about Gentiles but about Jews. We’re too caught up in fear – speaking it and thinking it. I made this observation, recently, of the renewal of the mind, as some call it. God heals our thinking. But healing comes because we make the effort to change. We must continually, minute-by-minute, stop ourselves from thinking our old thought patterns. We must realize we are thinking wrong and lay that attitude down. We then deliberately think how God has shown us to think. The more I refuse to say (even silently) the wrong thing and change it to the right thing, eventually, I will not think the old way at all.

And let me alleviate this one rabbit trail because I am not a talker. God knows our thoughts. Too much is stressed in church teaching about a requirement of God to speak out loud. Much of my mental healing came when I said nothing at all. Please don’t make others who are like myself, not vocal, feel condemned because you are vocal or your depiction of Jesus is judgmental. I know Him. He will never say one word about how loud or soft or silent you are.

God knows you and loves you for you. He isn’t trying to change you into who you are not. He knows your stresses, when you are pushed to the point of explosion, and honestly, take it from someone with experience in this, you don’t have to feel like that is wrong at all. We walk on eggshells with God, and it isn’t necessary. He wants to be our Father, who adores us, and our Brother, who understands us. He is any relationship you desire. Best friend, closest buddy, or simply the Savior who loves you so much.

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15)

“For we do not have a heavenly physician (a great high priest) who is unable to appreciate our weakness, suffering and struggles, but we have one who in his humanity was tempted in every way—exactly as we are—yet without sin, without ever giving in to selfish temptations.” (Hebrews 4:15, Remedy)
