God's Will Be Done

"God's plan will work itself because He cannot lie."

GOD’S PLAN has no exits. Abraham sets an example. He tried several times to alter the plan of God, but God would make a nation of him. There was his choosing Hagar over Sarah. And lying to kings twice that Sarah wasn’t his wife. And choosing Ishmael over Isaac for the blessing. But in the end, when the moment came for his obedience, Abraham obeyed, offering to sacrifice Isaac, and covenant was born.

“God has all the facts (Romans 2:2, TPT).” He knows our personalities, our likes and dislikes, what we will and won’t do, and selects us, far in advance, for His work. The issue with this in people’s thinking is personal preferences. Many say, “We can choose to sin,” and, “God’s given us the ability to choose.” And these are true. But to make personal choice greater takes away the surety of God’s plan. This is stated throughout the Word, and we like it when it works to our benefit, with what we understand.

God’s Word does not return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11). What He has said He will do in us, with us, among us, He will do. It will be accomplished. He is trustworthy. To teach we can “goof it up” through sin, through self-choice, makes God’s Word not trustworthy. Makes God not trustworthy. Jesus would be born in a specific sliver of time to chosen people. His earthly father would be Joseph. His mother, Mary. No one would goof that up.

God’s plan will work itself because He cannot lie (Numbers 23:19). He is Truth. We can choose to sit down and give up on His plan, or choose to stand and believe. But God knows us far in advance. He knows what we will do, just as He knew Abraham. He knew Abraham would embrace the promise and obey.

Judas is a negative example. Jesus pleaded for him, in the garden, but his sin was prophesied (Psalm 41:9). Prophesy is a picture of what God knows will happen, and it is always meant for our benefit. But it comes from what God sees. The Scripture tells us, of Judas, that Satan entered him (John 13:27). Judas’ hatred of Jesus was total and complete. It was not done in error or for any other motive than Jesus’ death. His suicide was not repentance. Many have seen it this way, but that goes against the prophecy spoken thousands of years before (Psalm 69:25; Psalm 109:8; Acts 1:20).

Thinking of God this way makes us feel helpless. That is our wrong perspective. Instead, it is meant to make us secure, to give us strength. In my own life, seeing the way ahead as unalterable to me made me realize God likes me just as I am. Where I have had questions, some of the whys floating through your head right now, I refuse to answer those outside of hearing God’s Spirit. He, alone, can give clarity.

Also, I refuse the one-word vision. Too many hear a single word or have a small vision and take it and run with it, getting into error. God knows of me that I need a complete thought, and it must be from His Presence, or I’m out. I will not make guesses. And I have found by making this my standard, He shares more things with me. Why would He continue to speak things to me if I always make the wrong assumptions and make the wrong things to be Him? Because so much of what people are hearing is not Him. Having heard, and continually having had wrong understanding, that they cannot hear Him takes the abundance of His speaking away (Matthew 25:29), to paraphrase the familiar verse.

God’s will be done. According to His promise, just as He wills it, and with my obedience. Obedience is what He desires. Not to our frustration, though He can handle us when we get like that, but to our maturity. That we don’t get frustrated and out-of-whack. And that we know His will, without speculation, no more guesswork on our part. But, instead, we keep going forward, unworried, sure of Him and of His will for us, though we may not see it in its fullness in every minute of time.
