| "STOP IT" |
WOMEN IN the pulpit is such a trivial thing. I mean, it’s like we’ve decided to argue over vases. Stemmed or tuliped? Or paint colors. Should we paint the pulpit white or brown? The thing we ought to see is that we’re arguing, which is way more “not God” than a woman preacher. We could twist this topic in a number of directions. But I’m going to speak from the Spirit right now and say, “STOP IT.” Stop picking up offenses and wielding them like a sword. You look silly.
Jesus is at rest. Offended by nothing. And He has way more reasons than we do.
What we need to ask in regard to the women-thing is, Is there any anointing? Because Joe Blow preached a sermon that wasn’t correct spiritually, but God was with him. And Suzy Q sang an anointed song that raised hands toward heaven. But by all means, our peaceful, loving God who died for the entire world, including the men who hung Him on the cross, is miffed when a woman gets in the pulpit.
Let’s make this an issue. When women don’t have their hair covered in the Gentile church, and the apostle Paul said it’s better we don’t get married at all, and there’s the King of the Jews (according to some) condemning the Jews. There’s more. No one. NO ONE has John’s Revelation correct. No. One.
“But, Suzanne, shouldn’t we straighten this out?”
Okay, let’s do that. I’m a woman writer. I’d better stop writing God’s Truth and continue with romance novels. And let’s close the door on women Sunday school teachers. That should be out. And no more women’s groups. Oh, thank God. (Sorry, that one excites me.) While we’re circling the drain here, DO WE REALLY NEED MAN NIGHT? Grunt.
Oooh, I’m just venting like you do … STOP IT. Stop arguing. Stop twisting Scriptures to allow arguing. Stop saying “the Spirit said” what the Spirit did not say, so that you can argue. Stop calling it discipline or chastening when it’s condemnation. Stop making Jesus your excuse. He created women, not from a man’s toe. From his rib, the place of the Breath of God. Then He blessed marriage. To quote a known Rebbe, It’s “not just gymnastics.” It’s covenant. “It’s the holiest thing men and women are capable of.”
“And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;” (Genesis 2:21)
When God needed to bring His Son into the world, He used a virgin whose voice speaks louder today than any other.
That would seem to seal it, but some will still quote Paul to justify what is really just an argument. How about, instead, we walk in the Spirit, being led of the Spirit? Let’s read the Word with the Spirit. And remind ourselves what Jesus said regarding all of Old Covenant Law. “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these (Mark 12:31).”
Love pleases God. Argument doesn’t. If you still keep voting on this issue, then you don’t know Him.
“And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” (Mark 12:32-33)
