| "Mercy is who He is." |
THE WHOLE WORLD was violent. Only 8 people were righteous. Were holy. We must see this in the light of today’s earth because we are nowhere near that level of darkness. And what God did to cleanse the earth then, He will never do again because righteousness prevails. Holy people are everywhere. This was His promise. To Noah. To earth. Generations later, to Abraham. He is a Man of His Word. He has promised us peace, so we will have peace.
The God of Peace sent His Son, the Prince of Peace, to preach the Gospel of Peace, and release the Spirit so that we would have Peace on earth good will to men. There are no exceptions to this. Abba has prophesied the end as no more sorrow, no more death (Revelation 21:4). God is not violent. There will not be war. There will be peace. You would accept this if you truly knew Him.
Anything we have mis-pictured as violence is wrong.
Violence comes from sin. There is violence in men. There is violence in devils. God is holy. Holiness cancels sin, not affected by it but affecting it completely. Put the unholy in the Presence of God, and it ceases. Here is our heart’s cleansing from sin upon salvation. The Holy Spirit comes to live inside a person’s spirit, and He makes all of it new (2 Corinthians 5:17). Similarly, He is cleansing of the mind (Romans 12:2). We do have a part in it. We must choose new thought patterns, but He is the strength to keep choosing. He is why, eventually, we no longer need to choose. We no longer think that way. We can’t fathom thinking that way.
I say this on repeat, but when we are angry, we must see that as a negative thing and not a positive defense. We jump too eagerly at any opportunity to protect and substantiate ourself. God wants us to not GET angry in the first place. He is not angry. The King James Versioni is accurate in both translation of Hebrew, the original language of the Old Covenant, and of Greek, the language of the New Testament. But the usage of the words “anger”, “wrath”, and “vengeance” common to Middle English translators paint a wrong image. In one verse, we read God is mercy. In the next, He is filled with wrath. Mercy is who He is, so any mention of Him as wrath must be understood in that light.
It is the same with Hebrews 2:14, 1 John 3:8, and 2 Timothy 1:10. These are what Christ did. Past tense. So wherever we see us involved in warfare, today, we must turn our focus back to these verses. We simply cannot escape “destroyed”, “destroyed”, and “abolished”. The devil is rendered useless, destroyed. The works of the devil are dissolved, destroyed. And death is abolished. In another verse, Hebrews 2:15, it says there is no more fear of death. Jesus did not fear it. He knew He would be alive. In spirit, as God. And 3 days later, in His physical body. He is humanity perfected (Philippians 3:21). He triumphed over Satan and fallen angels (unclean spirits). Colossians 2:15. We cannot escape this Truth either.
Jesus won. God won. PEACE WON.
We look for Him to return as a conqueror. He will whisk us away, we think, and those unsaved will have years of torment. This is the same WRONG IMAGE that most Second Century Jews HAD in Jesus’ day. (We cannot make today’s worship by the Jews, in the forever of New Covenant, the same as those under Old Covenant Law.) They wanted Mashiach to appear as a conqueror who would destroy Rome. He was born as a baby and died like a criminal. They did not recognize Him.
Both pictures are not God’s vision. Nor John’s Revelation. The Father is a gentle Abba, His Presence so weighty. Heaven is joy. It is peace, patience, and self-control. Jesus came and brought heaven to earth. “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).” His will is eternal life. Everlasting life. And the goodness of His generous mercy overflowing our cup onto those around us. Righteousness (holiness) spreading around the earth. Beckoning Him to come.
