| "God wanted no man nor spirit being to ever be able to say He did not know how we felt." |
THE SIN WAS OURS. The cross was His. We could never have paid the price. No punishment would ever be enough. That’s the point.
Jesus was not punished instead of us. He was the Lamb, the sinless sacrifice, without spot or blemish. He is Christ – Father, Son, and Spirit. He laid down His life in obedience, dying on the Father’s behalf, beneath the anointing who is the Holy Spirit. Both were with Him in it. Both raised Him from death. Because death could never overcome God’s eternal life. Also the point.
God is that generous. So abundant in mercy and kindness that He’d give all He had to save us.
Save us from what? Not the devil. That loser was judged and condemned (John 16:11). He is no longer active but bound. He’s been tried and convicted. Triumphed over (Colossians 2:15). The power that held us which made us incapable of saving ourselves was sin. Jesus lifted up and carried away (nasa, Isaiah 53:4) all our sins, weaknesses, and distresses (Isaiah 53:5 AMPC). God knew only God could do it. So He made His point.
The Father wanted us to inherit the kingdom. Jesus’ death as the Son couldn’t do that. Wait, ’til you get my point. Abba had to die. The Son only inherits at the Father’s death (Hebrews 9:16). But Abba cannot die, nor can the Spirit, so Jesus became Them. He was Son of Man so that death was required. He is one with Them, united forever (John 17:21). His death, as the Father, ensured us of Resurrection.
God wanted no man nor spirit being to ever be able to say He did not know how we felt. He has stood in our shoes, felt the worst mankind could dish out, and died because of the hatred of men who were fueled by sin. His love bore the lash, wore the crown, and held Him on the cross. He knows rejection, suffering, and loss. He died seeing His mother below, knowing her pain in that moment (John 19:26). He died hearing the thief’s plea, “Remember me when you come into your kingdom (Luke 23:42).”
He died, and now He lives. When death had done all death could do. Life came. And God wears the crown He earned, at the expense of His own reputation (Philippians 2:7). There’s my point.
“Christ has utterly wiped out the damning evidence of broken laws and commandments which always hung over our heads, and has completely annulled it by nailing it over his own head on the cross.” (Colossians 2:15, Phillips)
