| "He didn't accept it." |
HALF THE BATTLE with doubt is recognizing it. We must know, just because it's in our thoughts doesn't mean we have accepted it. Jesus lived on this earth. He knew doubt. He didn't accept it. The Remedy Translation, which I love, points out that He had holy thinking.
“Jesus, with his human mind filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River and was led by the Spirit into the desert,” (Luke 4:1, Remedy)
We misunderstand holiness. It is being pure … but not as we've pictured, as untouched by what's unholy. The HOLY SPIRIT lives here with us, in us, and remains holy. He cleanses sin. He isn't made sinful by being here. Or anywhere. In the same way, and because He is in us, though we see doubt, we aren't affected by it.
I knew doubt recently. God had spoken His heart. He promised me peace. But boy did I have the opportunity to be unhappy and restless. The fact that I felt it didn't mean I had given in. Because in my thoughts, I remembered the Word of God. He says righteousness, which is holiness, gives me peace (Isaiah 32:17). It is quietness and assurance. So I chose to behave how peace affects me.
“And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.” (Isaiah 32:17)
Doubt is all mouth. It has lots to say, but all of it is a lie. Think of Abraham. He had so much doubt that he made his own action plan. He'd conceive a son in Hagar. He loved that son, too. But God blessed Isaac, the miracle WHICH DID HAPPEN in he and Sarah. God does not lie. He does not fail. And He never forsakes us (Hebrews 13:5). So we can trust Him 100%. That's the foundation of our belief. Even when death stared Him in the face, He didn’t change. And how much today, in what I stare at, do I love Him for that.
“For he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5)
