| "What truth He brings is to ease heartache, is always and every shalom. Peace." |
THERE ARE some things you can only give Him while on the earth. Minister Bill Johnson gave this statement following the passing of his wife, Beni. Gathered around her, the family raised their hands and worshipped. What a beautiful thing.
To praise Jesus in the middle of emotional pain is to give Him everything. In heaven, there is praise. Every tongue sings of Him, who sits on the throne. We serve a risen Savior. But worship amidst heartache requires true sacrifice. Frankly, it hurts. How can we lift up joyful voices when so much grief fills our heart? Or anger. Infinite questions. The Spirit would answer the questions. In time. He longs to bring peace today.
He created us. He understands our need to know. He’s also the God of faith. He asks us to trust Him, to lean on His love and fill our hearts and minds with His Presence. What we don’t understand, He will fill with rest. Sometimes that’s rest from what’s unanswered because there is a depth of Truth that we cannot grasp here and now.
“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” (1 Corinthians 13:12)
We live in imperfect vessels in a world altered by death and darkness, on an earth sustained by the times and seasons God set into place, and until He removes them and recreates everything, life will go on forward. Men with little knowledge of Him write endings that aren’t true. Men with knowledge of Him predict a future they’ve decided upon, misreading John’s Revelation and the words of the apostles. The Truth is, even if we knew, there’d be losses, and we’d ask what happened here to this one or there, to those. He cannot answer and bring fear. Ever.
He cannot.
We think He chooses what to say so that it won’t make us worried, that He deliberately holds silence so that fear doesn’t come. And “it’s better that we be in ignorance” than anything He says make us afraid. But no, it isn’t that He WILL NOT but that He CANNOT. Where it’s you and God and revelation, He cannot speak fear. What Truth He brings is to ease heartache, is always and every time, shalom. Peace.
When the doubts come, when the questions rise within, when fear threatens again, when we’re worried about this or that thing, He is comfort. Always comfort. Sin and death and evil steal our rest, they take away our peace. He restores it. Sometimes … Often, by saying nothing at all. And for this, in times of sadness, when a loved one has passed from this earth, in times of conflict or chaos, we lift our hands and sing His praise.
“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” (Hebrews 13:15)
