| "Just be yourself with God." |
THERE ARE too many choices, too many decisions to make. I have asked Papa, the Holy Spirit, to help me not be overwhelmed, and I trust Him to do that, to make of my poor mushy brain something better able to forgive myself. Because that’s at the heart of the issue. If I decide A, then maybe I’ll regret it and wish I’d done B. This thought pattern especially applies to getting rid of stuff, but not things that are broken or worn out. Those I can let go of easily. And it isn’t a money issue. What it’s worth doesn’t influence me. It’s more that memories do.
Now that I’ve said all that, I’ll reiterate this Truth – that it is the Holy Spirit that heals the mind (Romans 12:2). My brain isn’t really mush. That’s an analogy for how choices make me feel. Maybe for you, it’s not choices, but something else, maybe you’re too bold, too up front. He is who makes of our mistakes something solid and confident. He’s who makes something mild and reserved of what is arrogant and crass. Where I grew up, or the types of places we attended, leaned a lot toward boldness. I have discovered God has a place for quiet people like me. A minister (not one I know personally) said God urged him to be more outgoing, to dance a bit and show more emotion. I was reading his words at Papa’s urging and wondered the whole time why, cause this canary ain’t gonna sing and flutter her wings. But when I came to the end of the passage, He simply said, “Just be yourself.”
That’s the message of this. Just be yourself with God. He’s going to fix you and preserve all the stuff that makes you you. Just don’t use your mistakes, your things that need fixing, as a defense. Anger is never good. Outspoken can be rude and sinful. Opinions need to be held in and checked with God. Criticism should be silent. Mild should be strong in character and humble but sure of itself. Quiet, like me, should know how to limit its thoughts. What if “the devil” heard every word you said and replied to it? I ask this, not because he’s doing that, he’s been rendered useless (destroyed, Hebrews 2:14), but to make you pay attention to your thoughts. Psalm 19:14 prays to God that both the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart would be acceptable in His sight. God knows our every thought (Psalm 139:2;Hebrews 4:12). We should strive to please Him.
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalms 19:14)
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
And as an addendum to this thought, the heart of trust in God, of leaning on Him, of desiring His instruction and the reason we want to pray (to talk) to Him, is how much we love Him. You simply cannot and should not ever think of “faith” or trust in Him absent of how crazy you are about Him. Be the bride who can’t wait to be alone with her spouse, or the child who longs for time with Daddy, and you’ll have it right.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2)
