| "He said to me one morning, 'I am patient and kind.'" (1 Corinthians 13:4) |
I DON'T HAVE a need to talk, so I don't fight things others work to overcome. I have said the wrong thing before though, but I have also trained myself to let many words go, the physical effort of saying them removing my interest. We're continually on the defense and making assumptions about what someone meant by what they said. I'm not curious by nature either, something I inherited from my mother. I don't have to know the details.
We all have a need to express ourselves and to be understood, but what I have learned, in my time in the Spirit, is why He is silent and how we must model it. He said to me one morning, "I am patient and kind." (1 Corinthians 13:4) And in that moment, I knew His words. At the same time, I have heard Him be strict, over teaching principles and our honoring Jesus. But always it is balanced out by His pauses, that He said only what was needed. And didn't take offense.
Here is one of our biggest shortcomings. We speak to be heard, in our own defense, or to correct another because we disagree. He does none of these in the manner we do.
He isn't ever offended and mad and must be seen that way. His desire is for us to see Him out of love for Him. Then to listen and take to heart His instruction. Our motive with others is generally all wrong. I've asked myself this question often: Can I hear what I disagree with and stay silent? Because God can.
Love is patient and kind. It isn't arrogant or boastful, jealous or envious. It doesn't wish others harm.
God is good at all times. Everything He does is for our benefit. He knows when we will react to what He is saying and always tempers it with more patience and lots of love so that even if we fly into a fit of anger or moodiness, we trust Him and turn to Him and not away.
Evil makes us loud, makes us talk too much, and I'm not talking about in volume, but in intent. We want attention, to be seen, but humility is God’s nature. I ask you to think about that because He knows who He is. He is never abashed about that. But the "in your face" image man has created is fallen man and not a redeemed one. Slow down, sit down, and practice letting things go. Learn to hold your silence and God’s Voice will get infinitely louder.
“And we know that in all things, at all times, in all circumstances, God works for the good of his creation and for the good of all who love him. Those who have accepted God’s call—to work with him according to his purpose—experience the good things that God has for them.” (Romans 8:28, Remedy)
