| "In an attempt to take control of a world where they do not belong." |
UNCLEAN SPIRITS are not human. They are created beings who sinned and lost all of the Life, Light, and Wisdom of God. Not being in the Kingdom of Light, they are in complete darkness to the things of God. They have no peace, for peace is God’s alone. There is no peace except in God, and it is complete peace. To live outside of His peace means violence, strife, and the results of strife: anger, argument, and mental confusion.
Now, I realize people dislike talking about these beings, but there is a Truth the Spirit, who I call Papa, wants you to know. Unclean spirits, or devils as we may call them, are not human. This seems to be a simple statement except it is central to their behavior. They are on the earth, a human planet. They are supernatural beings with no home, trying to live where they are not meant to be. They do not know human behavior, nor human thinking, nor can they properly imitate humans. They think they can, and so they inhabit people (oppression or possession) in an attempt to take control of a world where they do not belong.
This can be seen in the Scriptures, particularly in the story of the Gadarene demoniac. I dislike that word, and so will not use it. He was a precious man, precious to God, who was crying out, day and night, for relief from his torments, and so God, Father and Spirit, send a Savior, the Son. I am not drawing false conclusions on this. It is in the story.
Mark 5:6 says, “But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him.” Not the devils which tormented the man, but the man. We know the man was seeking freedom by the words in the previous verse. Verse 5 says, “And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.” Now, I realize this behavior seems to be devilish. Men assume they caused the man to injure himself, but the injury was self-inflicted. The man wanted freedom, and there, afar off, He sees a Light. He finds hope. Devils are hope-less.
Devils cause pain, they cause torment, as it says in the story. What pain they inflicted is not stated, but we see their desire for violence in what happened to the pigs. They had to ask to be sent into the pigs, and Jesus, who holds all authority, had to grant it. Then, the second, they did as they desired, the entire herd runs down the hill into the lake and dies. This is what they wanted the man to do, but he refused. We know he refused because he is living in the story. It took seconds for the pigs to run away. The man, however, was well-known by the people who lived there. It says they tried to tie him up, but he broke the fetters, and when he was delivered, the people came out to see him.
“And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.” (Mark 5:15)
“Crazy guy, always cutting himself.” To prove to himself he was in control. That’s what I want you to see. And the Father heard his heart, and Jesus, without any fear, sent those devils where they didn’t want to go.
In Luke 8, where the story is also told, we have a word which tells us this. The devils asked not to be sent into the “deep.” This is the word “abussos” or Abyss, defined in Thayer’s Word Dictionary as “the common receptacle of the dead and especially as the abode of demons.” Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance defines this word as “the bottomless pit”, which we hear mentioned in John’s Revelation 20.
"And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.” (Revelation 20:1)
The Father is the owner, so to speak, of the bottomless pit. It is not owned by the devil or any devils or unclean spirits. They have no rights here (Luke 10:19). Jesus said He saw Satan fall like lightning (Luke 10:18). Next time we see him in the Scriptures, he is inhabiting a snake (Genesis 3:1). Soon, he will be in the lake of fire, which is not a literal lake but figurative of the Holy Spirit. He is the life of all things, and He is the end of devils forever.
“And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:18-19)
“I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.” (Revelation 1:18)
