Anything

"God will do anything for you still. Anything."

“DOES JESUS KNOW YOU?” the sign said. I laughed. Jesus is Christ, the Anointed One. The anointing upon Him is the Spirit, and He knows everyone. The better question was, “Do you know Him?” Because both unbelievers and “believers” don’t really know Him. We’ve reasoned Him out, saying “He’s like this,” or “like that,” and it’s exactly that, our thinking. Reasoning. Even knowing the Word’s words about Him, we’re off center.

I watched a young baritone sing “O Holy Night” in a most regal fashion and was struck, first, by how much Jesus enjoyed it and also, by how regal it was. Jesus is regal, don’t get me wrong, but more than that, He’s incredibly down-to-earth. He’s human, perfected (Philippians 3:21). So much of what “religion” styles as worship is religion. And He loves anyone’s worship. He sees the heart down to our tiniest motives. But He hasn’t forgotten falling asleep on a waterlogged boat during a storm (Matthew 8:24). He remembers hunger in the wilderness and the devil’s inane quote-unquote temptations. He remembers crucifixion. Though, on that, the Father has healed Him.

We don’t consider that either. The mental trauma of dying in such a horrible fashion, being mocked and spit on by those He was dying for. He knows all things today because He is Resurrected. But at those moments, He had to rely on the Holy Spirit’s love and compassion. I have done the same and cannot begin to tell, in fact, will not tell, the extent of it. Except to say God will do anything for you still. Anything. We simply must throw all our eggs in His basket and refuse to take them out. As long as you keep retrieving them, the problem lingers.

This is related in a direct way. But when the Scripture says the devil is “the god of this world” that fact is only because men continue to honor sin and death. Oh, a few worship him, extremely misled, but most simply aren’t worshiping Jesus, and the Word says there is no middle ground. You are either in the kingdom of Light and worship the living God or you are in the dark. You only get to choose Light. You can’t refuse dark unless you choose Light (John 3:19). In this same way, we cling to what’s eatin’ at us by thinking on it constantly. I know how hard it is to lay those things down. It takes constant worship. I had to give up everything I enjoyed, to be well. Now, God promises things will return, but until He returns them, and even after that, I am all His. There is no alternate, and I don’t want one.

“Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.” (Luke 11:35)

He knew me before I was even born. He saw my life, knew my struggles, and had prepared my freedom. This has been said by some, but when the Spirit said it to me and because of what He said to show it to me, I am forever changed. I am no one important, living in a tiny town only a few miles from where I grew up. How could the King of Kings know me? How could God do all that He’s done for me except that He is so very merciful? It is because He is so very merciful and touched by the feeling of our infirmities (Hebrews 4:15). It is why He died. It is why He lives. What we preach as so much faith-effort is, in fact, the most peaceful, restful thing to obtain.

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5)
