Only One Door

"There is so much God desires us to see of heaven."

I DISLIKE talk of doors. I have heard it said sometimes God closes all the doors and leaves you in the hallway. Sigh. Do I have to say this is not scriptural? God is good. He tempts no one with evil. James 1:13. Along this same line, He doesn’t open doors to see if you’ll figure out whether or not He’s pro-you-going-in. No, if God clears the way for you, where there was no way … let’s put it this way instead … then you will know for sure. It will be very apparent.

Don’t open the door for wickedness to work. This door reference has some value, but we must know what those doors are. There are ways of thinking that lead to wrong behavior, and if you indulge yourself, you will soon be acting on them. Sexual sins are one example. Don’t let your head go there, and if it’s an issue, ask the Holy Spirit to help you, and He will do so. He is in us to help us.

Notice I said the door for wickedness. There is no door for the devil. He is destroyed (rendered useless) (Hebrews 4:12) and his works are destroyed (dissolved) (1 John 3:8).

Jesus is the Door of the sheep. John 10:7. In fact, it gets deeper than that. He is a sheep who came through door into the sheepfold. This is from John 10:1, and it simply means He was born on the earth. Physical birth, as an infant to a mother, is the only way to be human. Devils and unclean spirits seek to inhabit humans because they aren’t one and can’t ever be one. They have no way of existence here. But Jesus is God, and He is forever human. He entered the door as a sheep and became the Shepherd. Through His death, He became the door to heaven and everlasting life. He’s the only door reference we need because the psalms say He’s lifted us up and set us in wide open spaces (Psalm 18:19). John 10, again, says He leads us in and out to good pasture. We actually go in and out of the throne room through Him. That’s what you’re doing when you pray, when you have conversation with God.

“Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh” (Hebrews 10:19-20)

There is so much God desires us to see of heaven, of His goodness, but fear and doubt hold back much of it. God will never do anything that causes us to be confused about who He is. Life puts people in situations that open the door to the supernatural. Because of the Holy Spirit in us and upon us (we can ask Him to be upon us), we have access to wonderful things. He is the Porter of John 10:3. He conceived Jesus in Mary, without her having known a man, and He raised Jesus back to life after His death on the cross. We could think of it as a screen door now, a place where breezes blow through, and we smell heaven.
