| "The Seed ... is not seed we've grown ourselves, but it comes directly from heaven ..." |
A SERMON is not an argument. The Spirit is not arguing His point. He’s giving revelation of Jesus. Just as Jesus came to reveal the Father (Luke 10:22). The Spirit has come to reveal the work of Christ. Jesus stated this to His disciples. Seeing their fear over what they’d heard and seen, the Father gave Him words of comfort. The COMFORTER (paraclete) was coming to teach them, guide them, and remind them of Jesus. He (Jesus) would leave them, and He would then return. John 14.
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14:26)
When Jesus began speaking in villages and towns, what was noticed about Him was the authority of His words. Some even said how He spoke was not like the scribes and Pharisees at all (Matthew 7:29;Mark 1:22). In His hometown, they marveled at His words then someone said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” and they turned loose of what was the Holy Spirit’s revelation of their Messiah (Luke 4:22). It was His Presence, His Power, on Jesus’ words that they noticed.
There is a huge difference between sermons spoken in the Spirit, anointed with His Presence and Power, and those men have written from their own reasoning. Trained and educated speakers can develop a good thought pattern, but what reveals Truth to those listening is not the speaker’s charisma, personal abilities, or manner of speaking. The Seed being planted in the soil of the heart is not seed we’ve grown ourselves, but it comes directly from heaven and requires heaven’s water to grow. And being heavenly Seed, it works by heaven’s processes. It will only put down roots when filled with love, joy, and peace. It is the fruit of the Spirit – meekness, humility, patience, and self-control. At its heart is the unity of the body of Christ (Jesus is the Head).
“His intent was that now, through the church, God’s wisdom, methods, principles and character should be revealed to all intelligent beings throughout the entire universe as we experience God’s methods and character recreated within us,” (Ephesians 3:10, Remedy)
No man or woman is called to speak and explain God’s Word to voice their opinion. Every word is supposed to be God’s Voice, spoken to encourage and uplift. They are words to bring revelation of Jesus, to cause people to hunger for Him and rely on Him. They shouldn’t discourage, frustrate, confuse, or cause anger. That is not who the Spirit is. They are never meant to elevate the speaker in people’s opinions. We are not building a personal platform in the pulpit.
The Spirit’s heart is love. He adores people. It horrifies me that the altar has been put in the back of the room. We must give Him our time and attention to speak to seeking hearts because He is the One wooing those listening, comforting those hurting. He knows the thoughts of the heart, how that one hears Him, what another person is going through in their personal life, what they’ve seen and what they never want to see again. We are so selfish even in doing His work, and He is not. He is generous and kind.
What could we learn if we’d set down our way of doing things and pick up His? Who can we be and what Truth will He reveal to us because of our maturity? There is so much revelation in the Word reserved for those of a humble, submissive heart, those who look like Him and sound like Him. There is so much missed out by and misunderstood by those more prepared to argue than to serve. Jesus demonstrated service by washing the disciples’ feet and He said this would be who they should become (John 13:14). Then He laid down His life even for those who despised Him, those who hung Him on the cross.
Words are precious. Once spoken they cannot be called back and so should be treated as of infinite value. Not one word God speaks ever fails. Whereas our promises are worthless paper, not to be relied on, His always do what they are sent to do. Ours should be the hearts that know them and share them to see His will done on the earth.
“For we do not preach ourselves, but rather Jesus the Messiah as Lord, and ourselves as merely your servants for Jesus’ sake.” (2 Corinthians 4:5 ISV)
“Don’t suppress or quench the work of the Spirit in your hearts and minds;” (1 Thessalonians 5:19, Remedy)
