"CHOOSING HIM above all else that consumes your time, your thinking and doing." |
My headspace felt crowded. Too much … too much was packed into it. Some inane video had sent me over the edge. Not just the content of the video, which was outlandish and presented outlandishly, but the capacity. It’s like my brain had reached full and that sent me into TILT. Maybe I’m the only one who gets this way and consciously guards against it. I tell people I have a “too much” button and my brain shuts off, and I get “the look.” Really, Suzanne? Yes, really. Two things I tell people to do where their thinking is concerned. 1. Be conscious of what goes in it. 2. Pay attention to what comes out of it. Your emotions being huge flags of what went in.
There are times, many-many-many times, when we need to deliberately stop filling ourselves with crap. Was that story harmful? Not from a what-it-was-about standpoint. But from a my-brain-didn’t-need-that standpoint, yes. Peace of mind comes through the Presence of God. He’s the only source of true inner and outer calm. There is a Calm Instagram account which asks you to pause for 30 seconds and breathe. I like this, and it helps me. I have no idea who runs the account but NOT doing stuff is great for the head.
Running the TV end-to-end is not, especially when it’s people arguing, half of which have too much that isn’t God in their head. Ask yourself, why do I care what this bird feather has to say? Did they get this info from Jesus? Nope. Nope. And nope. So turn it off. Please? If I beg, will you??? And use your emotions as places to heal. Why did that make you so angry that you had to say something? It’s always worth taking to God and finding out. Then worship and find peace. Seek Him for how-to not be angry like that about that again. This goes also to depression and grief and even to extreme outbursts of extroversion. That’s when you are about to skydive off an emotional cliff, especially if it causes you to take action. You’re going to just do the thing. Make sure you have a place to land first, and that comes through the Spirit, you and Him spending time together. CHOOSING HIM above all else that consumes your time, your thinking and doing.
Whenever our time with the TV or the personal hobby or even the family sometimes, takes up more of us than God does, we’re out-of-balance. Because here’s the thing. He will actually help you do those things that He’d rather you let go of. He loves you. He’s interested in you, and if it’s relatively harmless, He will support you. But sometimes … often … He would like you to read your Bible and again, to worship, and always to pray – in English and in tongues (heavenly language). Praying in tongues tames the tongue. It keeps us from outbursting, and we remain at peace.
We can go and do in peace and stay and relax in peace when our balance is right. When God is truly first in our heart and in our soul. When He becomes our default.
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalms 19:14)
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
