God Speed

"We've given Him our spirit man to make new then assumed the mind is our own struggle."

“That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,” (Ephesians 5:26)

THE WORD is our washing. Its truth cleanses us of all that creeps into our mind. We are spirit beings living in our physical bodies. Our spirit is recreated by the Holy Spirit when we make Jesus Lord and Master, but our soul – our thinking needs work. Needs healing.

Some healings take time. I have a scar which I hate, so I asked God to remove it, knowing He is my Healer. He has proven this to me. But a scar seems easily overlooked and tolerated. Unimportant. Except, that ugly thing has begun to fade. I haven’t asked why so slowly, which is what many would want to know, but chose, instead, to notice God does many things at different paces.

It is said on repeat that we want everything overnight. Just heal me and get rid of this, this instant. Then usually, there’s a testimony of someone who was healed like that and instead of rejoicing with them, we get mad. God’s slow pace is for your benefit, but NOT NECESSARILY to teach you or to test your patience. He isn’t always after our education. Instead, it’s that He knows the body and the mind and we, ourselves, and what is best for us. It’s really that simple.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV)

The Spirit of God is the healing of our thinking. He changes us from hateful, violent people into loving, generous ones. Just look at the apostle Paul. God isn’t stressed out by us. He isn’t miffed because we haven’t gotten over the thing. He is working continually in us to change us, even when we’re resistant to it. There have been some things that He refused to let me do any other way but His, and others that He let me do as works best for me. The first frustrated me because they seemed so trivial, yet when forced to alter my way of doing it, I was better off. The truth is, even what I am stubborn about would be okay if I did it how He asked me to. That He allowed me to plant my feet shows His love.

All of that to say, we’ve given Him our spirit man to make new then assumed the mind is our own struggle. It isn't. Jesus lived without sinning because His mind was in the Spirit’s control. Not as an automaton. Jesus liked and hated human things. Like watermelon. But when it came to loving hateful people, He did that through the Spirit. When it came to spending forty days and nights fasting in the wilderness, He did that through the Spirit. When He laid down His life to obey the Father, it was the Father who enabled Him to do it. It helps me to know that the same Spirit which raised Him from the dead is at work in me, washing me clean of all the junk (Romans 8:11).

“Jesus, with his human mind filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River and was led by the Spirit into the desert,” (Luke 4:1 Remedy)

I must cooperate. I have to turn off all the world’s self-talk. What are they saying that distracts me from what I should be doing? Which is more important, politics and entertainment, sports programs, or spending time with my Best Friend? In some ways, my recent crisis forced me to change. When you are face-to-face with darkness, you seek the Light. A person in the midst of trouble is more willing to do whatever it takes. But what I’m asking of you is not to wait until then. Seek Him continually.

“We demolish every idea, argument, doctrine, teaching or concept that infects the mind and distorts or obstructs the truth about God, and we reclaim the thoughts, feelings and attitudes into the truth about God as revealed by Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5 Remedy)

“I want you to become true friends of God, who have recovered the ability to think clearly, choose wisely, live completely in harmony with God’s methods and principles, and who reveal Christlike love in everything you do.” (Philippians 1:11 Remedy)
