"Let's commit to REST." |
THE DEVIL is stuck in a rut. Devils (plural) or unclean spirits, we can also call them, have a very small repetitive book of annoyances. And that’s what it is – annoyances. Fear is their greatest weapon, but truth is, what they’re doing to deceive is them putting on a show. I have a reason for bringing this up. I have had occasion for the Spirit of God to speak to me about these matters, and what I’ve learned gives me His perspective. There is nothing to fear. It is NOT FEARING them which gives us the win. 99% of humanity will never experience a devil, and that’s a good thing. I also phrase this a certain way because there is nothing of them to see. “See” implies something visual, but they have no form or substance. What some have seen is the devil’s imagination or God’s revelation. God will never reveal anything devilish and cause fright. Never. He is not the spirit of fear, but the Spirit of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
Discerning of spirits, a gift of the Holy Spirit, allows some to see the supernatural. It is not limited to devils, which are fallen angels. It allows sight of supernatural atmospheres and godly beings. There are different types of the angelic beings in God’s kingdom of Light. Many are described in various places in the Word. Gabriel, who spoke to Mary and Joseph, is one. He also spoke to the prophet Daniel in the book by his name. There, he spoke of a warring angel named Michael. In that passage, Gabriel spoke about a battle in the heavens which had delayed God’s answer to Daniel’s prayer. There is no more delays of this nature. Jesus is King of Kings. He led captivity captive, another way of saying He took those in Paradise to heaven because He owns the skies (Ephesians 4:8). The devil and the kingdom of darkness has been placed under His feet (Ephesians 1:22). Colossians 2:15 tells us He led the defeated devil in a triumph. This is a reference to Roman victories on earth. It does not say there if this was literal or legal. It could have been both. But those of that day, when the verse was written, would have understood it. Rome made sure, in kind of an announcement to the public, that all could see who they had conquered.
“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” (Colossians 2:15)
The devil is de-feeted. He has no more standing. Let’s commit to REST and stop fighting old battles with unclean spirits who have no more authority. They’d like us to keep fighting as it gives them something to work with in us. REST does not. When we choose to trust God and not to be afraid, no matter how uncertain things appear, it gives us the advantage. Being frank, I’ve seen the worst of fear, and I’m not going back there for anyone. Not even a sermon. Nor a song. The words of our mouth establish our thought patterns. What we say comes not from what we eat for dinner but from what we dine on in our mind. When we watch endless television entertainment, end-to-end, especially when it’s not what Jesus would like us to be watching, and when we, because of it, then aren’t reading the Word, then what we take in the most will dominate us.
I get it. I once said the Word was boring. Said it out loud. I then asked God to change my mind about it, and He has. I wasn’t fond of worship music, and I still have a good upbeat collection (and I mean upbeat). But it isn’t always what my heart needs. It isn’t always what God wants to hear. We don’t consider this. The Holy Spirit writes many genres of music, much of which would surprise people. He is after men’s and women’s hearts. And we should not condemn our Christian family for styles we personally don’t care for. Please don’t do that. Some of the words to some amazing songs are not popular genres. Worship isn’t the slow, peaceful tune we’ve come to expect. It can be whatever genre the songwriter pens. But our heart must be God’s, to know at that moment in our day what He is asking us to hear. This is my point. Especially in public services. To always lean on up-tempo tunes leaves out what the Holy Spirit wants to do. Frankly, we don’t give Him enough time. ON the opposite hand, there is no need to drag things out and call that Him working. Sometimes … often, it is just us. This is where we need to know His voice because we’ve spent time with Him.
“And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.” (John 10:4)
Which circles me back to unclean spirits or devils, as I choose to call them. They’re selfish beings, consumed by sin, and careless of their fallen state and without any reflection on it. They destroy humans because violence controls them, and they have no self-control. Self-control comes from God (Galatians 5:23). The Spirit of God is the most self-controlled power in existence. The fact He can create the earth and all that’s on it in just six days (though He could have done it in seconds), and yet chooses to live in man, His fallible creation, is the most amazing example. What He can do, He chooses to only do when it’s appropriate and those involved will learn from it, whether positively because they know Him, or negatively because they don’t. Our perspective of Him, our intimacy with God, alters what we see, know, and understand.
Don’t seek to know devils. Seek to know God as Father, as Savior and Christ, and as Spirit. Speak the Word daily over yourself and your family, its Words of protection, such as Psalm 91, and its Words of revelation. There are so many excellent Scriptures which when we put them in our mouths, will become real to us, and what becomes real becomes true. We see its result. Then when we are humble and submitted to our loving God, and have His Word foremost in us, He can trust us to hear and see supernatural things. We will not mistake visions and dreams that aren’t God, (even those about godly subjects can be from the mind), but will know what He gives us to see. That’s a wonderful place to be – where He trusts us, and we trust Him.
“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25)
