"Nothing is required." |
THERE COMES a point of suffering where you don't know what else to do. Our response to stresses and pains is always any sort of self-preservation. What can we do to distract us and feel less misery? When we have exhausted everything, though, the mind and the devil automatically bend toward giving up. We default to sorrow and depression. After all, there's no more come back, no more responses. Nothing works.
I hit this wall and had revelation. Because I was and am ever seeking God, He showed me both what I was doing to survive and how to depend upon Him. In the secular world, we are consistently trying to survive. It's "only the fittest" make it and those that are weak do not. But when you have Jesus, you have the Spirit of God, who knows you. He is the power of the Resurrection. He mended Jesus’ body, made it better than new, and breathed Him back into it. You have The Father, as well, and He is the gentlest soul. He adores me. He SO LOVES you. In this light, the odds just aren't the same. We are not fighting to survive and hoping "this works." We have a distinct advantage. But it requires giving up. For all our attempts to make it through another day under our own strength, what God asks us to do is exactly NOTHING.
There’s nothing we CAN do, so we give up trying to win on our own.
Jesus did it all, and it's all free. Nothing is required. While we're trying to work out the rule of law, doing works to improve our situation, He's holding out a seat in heavenly places that requires only being loved. That's it. All we have to do is believe we are loved so much He will save us. So while we're planning our next step, finagling, two steps back, three northwest … Instead, we should be praising Him. Worshipping.
“The old me who lived for self—who sought to get instead of give, the me who lived on the survival-of-the-fittest principle—died when I recognized the true significance of all that Christ has done. That old me no longer lives, but Christ—with his character of self-sacrificing love—now lives in me. The life I now live in this body I live by trust in the Son of God, who loved me and freely gave himself to win me back to trust and to purge humanity from selfishness and death.” (Galatians 2:20 Remedy)
Minister Barry Bennett discovered this truth. He was diagnosed with cancer and given 30 days to live. But in that moment, God spoke. "You will survive this. Just wait and see." Minister Bennett said some time later, at a low moment, when he had no more fight in him, he cried out. "There’s nothing else I can physically do." He was too weak. And God again replied, "Just lay there and worship." Minister Bennett found out what I did. Nothing is needed of us.
His is the power. His is the timing. His was the blood shed. He was the sacrifice. He paid the price and He provides the way. He knows where we stand, what we are thinking, and what we aren't capable of.
Minister Bennett is alive today and in great health. And so am I. When my mind screamed for a way out, even when I reacted in anger, God's forgiveness was there and His presence filled the room. He never stopped loving me, never stopped shutting the enemy up. Our patience is limited, our perseverance small. Suffering makes it worse. We see only what hurts; we hear only the hiss and ring of the enemy in our ears. We have to focus on Jesus instead and give up trying to make our own cross.
There’s no need to try to survive. Jesus came to earth to heal our hearts, to rebirth us as living spiritual beings, and to heal our bodies. He makes us physically and mentally healthy, and provides for all our natural needs. God has given us ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness. And that godliness is who He is.
“Because of all you have done, because you have entered my life story and weaved it into Your own, I will humble myself and thank you forever.” (Psalm 52:9 VOICE)
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.” (2 Peter 1:3 BSB)
