"Nothing is impossible with God." |
GOD SPOKE through a donkey. He caused an axe head to float. He parted great bodies of water, making dry land. He flashed fire from heaven to consume the prophet’s sodden sacrifice. The walls of a city fell down at the praises of God’s people. Two lepers sounded like an army, causing a conquering force to flee. Vessels of water became wine. Empty vessels filled endlessly with oil. A dead man resurrected when thrown atop the bones of a prophet. That must’ve been a surprise. God turned the sun backwards to enable the army of Judah to conquer. He multiplied bread and fish to feed thousands – twice. He sent what was 400 square miles of quail three feet deep for His people, so many it came out their nostrils (Numbers 11:20). He created bread, manna, from the dew each morning. The waters of a manmade pool healed the sick. So many fish gathered in the disciples’ nets, their nets threatened to break and their boats sink.
Dust, collected in God’s hands, breathed upon, walks and talks, inhales and exhales.
So what are you afraid God won’t do?
“But, Suzanne, those are Bible stories.”
There are modern ones I’ve heard. An unborn baby brought back to life. A girl in a coma for over a year, awake and alert with no side effects. A young man born with a heart defect who lived well into his 80s. A genetic brain defect healed. Cancer gone in 1-2-3 people. Neuropathy healed. A woman with epilepsy completely free.
The family of a Jewish rabbi walked right out of German control with the help of a Japanese businessman in World War II. A woman 9 months pregnant, freed from Communism, walked many miles to freedom without medical mishap. A car without gasoline driving several miles to safety. A man safe during a major car collision along an interstate in California, in which he saw heaven. The list goes on.
Nothing is impossible with God. In fact, the more impossible it is, the more we can count on Him to do it. We can count on Him always, but He likes the odds. His mercy is great, everlasting, endless. It fills in all the spaces where our belief falls short.
A man brought his son to Jesus and cried out, “Help my unbelief.” Jesus did. He healed the boy anyway. Do you get that? The father had doubts. He gave them to Jesus. I’ve done this and came to realize that God’s okay with it. He isn’t measuring our knowledge of Him or weighing the choices we’ve made. He’s not counting confessions and comparing them to Himself. We can depend upon Him when we’re undependable.
Our hardest hangup is patience. We want it done now. Today. He wants us to trust Him and endure. Which kinda sucks at the time. I admit that. But looking back later, we will see why He did it that way. We have to trust Him in our misunderstanding and confusion and give Him our anger. He can take it. And choose peace. Chew on peace.
God kept telling Gideon to get rid of possible soldiers. There are thousands in the enemy’s army, but now, he’s down to 300 to fight them. Another time, the army of Israel had only lanterns and pitchers to fight with. Moses’ rod turned into a crocodile, according to Rabbi Meir Solaveichik, which consumed those of Pharaoh's magicians. The entire Nile River some 4,135 miles, all became blood, which also filled all the pitchers and vessels indoors.
It was pitch-black dark in Egypt except where the Israelites lived in Goshen.
The Philistines stole the ark of the covenant and placed it in their temple to their god Dagon. Next morning, Dagon’s in pieces and all the Philistines have fanny problems. Got so bad no one wanted the ark anymore and no one was willing to return it, so they put it on a cart and shooed the cows back to Israel.
We know God CAN do it. We question IF HE WILL. Which is ridiculous given the evidence. I mean, He created man and woman so that He could be born of woman and become man. He created the heart, so His blood could be shed. And now, Resurrected and alive, He is perfection, evidence of all the human body, the human mind, the human spirit can do with God in it.
He's made us like Him.
“And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” (Matthew 17:20)
“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
“And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.” (Mark 10:27)
“For with God nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)
“And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)
