The Heart of God

"Signs and wonders are people."

SOME ENCOURAGE dreams and visions, citing Scripture as their reasoning. I have had dreams and visions (not the same thing) from the Father. I have also known those which are not. What I want to lead you to is seeking the voice of God in your secret place. Not an experience in your soul but one founded in your heart. The apostle Paul had a vision on the road to Damascus which changed his heart forever. He was not seeking it but was given it as a turning point in his Forever. Jesus was also given a vision. The devil took Him to the pinnacle of the temple, though He was in the desert. Jesus knew what it was and who caused it and did not respond in fear but with the Word of God which spoke of who He was.

We should not seek signs and wonders either, as separate from the presence of God and our relationship with the Spirit of God. Signs and wonders are not things, like inanimate objects, nor are they visual experiences nor physical sensations. They are not entertainment. Our attitude matters or we will not see them. “We” being the corporate church. Signs and wonders are people. They are God moving in the lives of people. I dislike most known church terms of this nature. As an example: though Jesus had disciples, the meaning of the word today smacks more of head counts than heart change, and it is the heart of God, His love for individuals, that causes Him to act.

All services in any body of believers should be centered upon Christ. Christ the Shepherd, Christ the Spirit, and Christ the Father. He needs to be given the time in worship that He desires, absent of our overplanning, and He needs to be given the reins of what is spoken in the pulpit. For the manifestations of the Spirit in people, a much better word, come when sons and daughters of God trust Him to fix what is broken. And here’s why – because we love them. Our love for each other, for those in the church body and those who may never enter the building, is what causes God to “move.” It would be better if we’d not call it Him “moving” because God is neither inanimate nor on the warpath. It is that He sees our hearts united in worship and reaches out to work His goodness in individual lives.

Are we praying for dreams and visions to say we had one? Or to be closer to the Father’s heart? He shows us things so we will carry His love wherever we go. He works through the manifestations of the Spirit because He loves people. He loves them so much He became one and died as one to save us all. While we sit in the pew and call for the glory cloud, He’s quietly fixing this one’s heart problem and that one’s sorrow without being seen. While we’re seeking dreams that may not be from Him, He’s holding endless revelations of who He is if we’ll just sit down and read His Word.

The truth is, most church bodies are not ready for a strong manifestation. The truth is, He told us to “go ye into the world” and not to spend so much time trying to round up the hurting and bring them into the building to prove our point. We are meant to be Jesus’ hands and feet wherever people are. We shouldn’t seek to make a scene, like the hypocrites do to get attention, but to drop whatever words of God’s love the Spirit speaks to us, like honey into the minds and hearts of those around us. Even if it’s not words at all but simply a smile and then we pray for them as we walk away.

“The judgments of the LORD are true, being altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb.” (Psalm 19:9-10 BSB)

“How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, and was affirmed by God through signs, wonders, various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will.” (Hebrews 2:3-4, BSB)
