Same As Usual

"God is in the center. Same place He's always been."

GOD IS IN THE CENTER. Same place He's always been. He has no plans to relocate. We think He does. In His frustration over us, He puts the throne on rollers and retreats out of reach. No, no, no. He's just as close as He was, just as in love, just as delighted in us, just as merciful. We're the one who moves and that is entirely because of our thoughts. We get to thinking we've messed up and maybe misunderstood His promises, then we wander.

The devil speaks in our ear, a deception – “God is disappointed. We messed up, after all.” We keep thinking about that and take a few more steps. A few hours pass, a day. We neglect prayer. We don't spend time in His presence. We say we still believe in His faithfulness, but when we finally take time to worship and seek Him, we realize how far left we've gone. But God's right where we left Him. Still meek and gentle, still patient and kind.

I've come to realize the more I do this process, how "the same" He is and how fidgety we are. How doubtful. It’s made me steadier. I don't wonder about His silence. I don't immediately wonder about mine. I'm less inclined to take those steps away because, after all, when I call out, "Hey God?" He's got His arms open. I'm a visual person. I can see Him that way with the same sweet smile, pleased with me that this time I just kept going forward and didn't give the devil a listen.

James 1:17 Weymouth “Every gift which is good, and every perfect boon, is from above, and comes down from the Father, who is the source of all Light. In Him there is no variation nor the slightest suggestion of change.”
