For Today

"People need people. Our reassurance, our kindness, our faith."

LET’S GET into an end-times debate. Oh, wait a minute … we’re not supposed to get into endless debates, questions, and strifes of words, which bring envy, strife, railings, and evil surmisings (1 Timothy 6:4). How about, then, we admit we don’t know much of anything and ask the Holy Spirit to teach us? And if when He answers we still don’t get it, how about we just set it down because sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof (Matthew 6:34)?

There are way too many people worried about the end times and the happenings of Revelation which (a) we ‘re not supposed to worry about or fear and (b) are not clearly detailed to us for a reason. How about instead of getting your mind lost into the mystery which God has not unfolded to us in full, we look to today? For today, do we have all we need to live well? For today, we have the Scriptures which speak to our health and our financial needs. For today, we speak God’s truth over our children and grandchildren. Over our nation.

How about for today, we put our foot down in confidence in God’s power in us and upon us and put a stop to the weariness of others? How about we speak our words from God over their words from the devil? Because ours negate theirs … And you don’t believe me. But the four friends saw their friend was lame and struggling with his sins and knew that he didn’t believe in this Jesus like they did. Jesus saw THEIR FAITH and the man was healed (Matthew 9:2). How about we stop pushing the devil around between us, and let’s just eliminate him from people and situations entirely? That’s what Jesus did.

How about we pray a circle around people and keep the enemy from returning to them? Despite what they don’t know from the Word and what they may misspeak. When I needed protection, God kept the devil from using what I used to do or what I had done against me. I, in effect, couldn’t open the door and let the enemy back in. He’s that kind of a Savior. He promises us the safety of His presence and I’ve got a newsflash for you – at salvation, His presence came to live in us. We don’t have to feel it to reassure ourselves. God protects His family. We have only to ask Him on their behalf. He will protect our children and the unsaved as well. There are simply too many testimonies to this. Too many parents claimed their unsaved son or daughter for Jesus, and God drew them out of a horrible place.

The issue is we’ve gotten lost in religious notions. “God hears our faith, but you’re not speaking faith. So …” We refuse to pray for the sick and those in need of peace and strength because we don’t FEEL anything or they got themselves into this mess and haven’t waved the 6’x6’ repentance flag yet. Big deal, Lucille. Here’s a thought, WHEN you lay hands on them, the Holy Spirit (you remember Him) can go to work in them and gently lead them to repentance in the secret place where no one’s embarrassed. Public embarrassment is not necessary to salvation. Neither are QR codes. People need people. Our reassurance, our kindness, our faith. We should do as Jesus and take their burdens onto ourselves and bear them.

“And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mark 8:34)

Even better, in today’s modern society (I said that in my dignified voice), we have texting (gasp), and social media (No!), and video and email and … We can minister from our seat in Town, USA, to someone in Timbuktu, Nation, and God will move on their behalf. (See, the Holy Spirit is EVERYWHERE.) Where we’re messed up about it is, we’re depending on us, when we are supposed to depend upon Him. We pray. We believe He will act, knowing He can act, and then we go rejoice and eat cake! (Jesus says chocolate cake!) We must refocus on who God is and His promises and stop seeking the wild-and-crazy miracle service minus its purpose – helping people. God “shows up” (a really horrible expression, as He’s never not there, but …) when our hearts are seeking Him, and NOT LOOKING FOR the wild-and-crazy miracle service. We meet to worship and hear the Word, and He says, “Hey, they love me, so watch this!”

Everything’s about Him. Our seeking is for Him. Our praying is to Him. Our believing is in Him. We are the conduits to salvation for so many who don’t have faith. We come because we have faith, and He is mercy. Those are enough. There is no one anywhere who cannot be healed, saved, or delivered for those two reasons. No one.

“Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.” (Mark 9:23-25)

“And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.” (Luke 17:13-14)

“And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,” (Luke 18:38-40)
