The Stronger One

"The Holy Spirit isn't worried about public opinion."

THE STRONGER ONE never has to defend himself but lets all opinion lie where it will because those with the right point-of-view will see him for what he is. He knows those with a meager point-of-view will continue to be misled. The Holy Spirit is big-HUGE-big. He once hovered over the entire earth. He still hovers over the entire earth, for that matter. His power is infinite. There is nothing He cannot do, and no wisdom or knowledge that He does not know. He hears all conversations. Nothing is in the dark from Him. So, He knows what men speak about God, how some curse Jesus, and sadly, who in the church spoke out against another child of God. Yet, though He is slandered continually, He proves Himself the stronger one by saying nothing.

“Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.” (Psalms 139:12)

He needs no retaliation nor to make a defense. With one breath, He will consume all sin in the fire of His presence and make this earth brand new. He is the Spirit of love, power, and a sound mind that is given to us. In the same verse, He IS NOT the spirit of fear. He neither has fear, nor gives fear. He is eternal, abundant life. I say all of that to point out He isn't worried about public opinion. Of Himself or of individuals or of nations. He is the ultimate self-control because He IS control. Most usually, what men say, He stays silent. He speaks through prophets about future events. He is often misunderstood in what they say. In response, He is patient and exceedingly longsuffering.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

What He wants from us is for us to LISTEN. To lean in and take the time to HEAR, instead of making mental judgments with human thinking. He speaks to gently correct or encourage, to spark prayer and increase faith. But we take His words and make them condemnation. Romans 8:1 says God never gives condemnation. So instead, He sits silent. Not out of reticence or anger, but sensitivity to our needs. He will never act to hurt us, even if we misunderstand Him. Much of what we do not know is because we are not seeking. We're assuming. We don't ask questions and don't expect answers. We tie His character to the works of the devil, and that is never correct. When Satan fell, it was because God sent him packing, then Jesus came to defeat Him and provide salvation. He sent the Spirit to us as proof of all He would do. For our guarantee, we have the power of God Himself.

“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:13-14 ESV)

We take Him for granted and are forgetful of Him being with us when here, as our Comforter and Friend, is all we will ever need to be safe, joyful, and at peace. He loves us just as we are and can fix all the rough places. I encourage you to keep Him in your thinking. Talk to Him like you would your family and see how your awareness of Him increases. See how He changes your alertness, in response, and how His silence becomes beautiful instead. He simply “is”, forever and all the time. He needs no words for that. And His truth (He is the Spirit of truth) stands on its own. We are in Him, in Christ, so, so do we. He is our defense. We can roll our cares onto Him and let Him carry the weight. When we learn to do that, then we become strong ones like He is. And there is so much thankfulness in us for that.

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” (John 14:16-17)
