Know Him

"He's a softie, the King, He loves people. All people. He just wants to save people, so much that He died for them."

HIS GUITAR HAD BEEN PLAYED, the strings strummed until the finish was worn off. He played it anyway and sang his praises to the King. Wearing blue jeans and a t shirt, a ball cap, he poured his heart out. And the King heard, and the King loved him beyond words. He’s a softie, the King. He loves people, all people. He just wants to save people, so much that He died for them. Actually laid down His life to ensure a man wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt with a dusty guitar could worship Him and live.

The King died so a man in a bar, high on drugs, and drunk out of his head, could hear Him speak and turn his heart toward God in an instant. That man became a noted minister. The King died so a kid in an Asian gang bent on killing someone, to the point he’d fly half an earth away to do it, a kid who couldn’t read … at all … would see in print, somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean, a warning that would save his life. See it and read it. True story. The King just wanted them to live, to be free of the hatred and the drugs and the alcohol and anything else that held them back, and giving Himself for it was totally worth it.

While others sit in a pew and worry about trivial doctrines, and fear labeled reverence, and whether one gender can speak the Word but not another, while some peddle the death of apostles and prophets, though that isn’t true, and others speak against their brothers and sisters in Christ, that King, THE CHRIST, just wants them to lay all their swords down and embrace Him. No one needs to hear the devil louder than the King’s voice. No one needs to worry about governments and nations with Him in control of it. No one needs to peddle faith or gather faith they’ve been given by grace when He saved them.

His mercy covers what faith doesn’t. Where belief in His faithfulness falls short, He picks up the slack. He’s that kind. He’s that good. And He doesn’t care if you’re inappropriately dressed when you call on His name, if you’re angry and feel like letting Him have it. Boldness before the throne takes on many colors. He has broad shoulders. He’s already carried the weight. Lifted it up and bore it away, all the sins, weaknesses, and distresses man could claim, every sickness, every disease is covered by His blood, and eternal life is good for after death and for during life, for everything. That is its purpose.

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

He saved a Muslim, who thought he’d killed someone, and years later, that man found the one he’d killed hadn’t died at all. God set it up for him, and he and his victim embraced in forgiveness. God loves Muslims. He would have them see the truth. He took a Catholic actor and turned him into sample-Jesus and used him to preach the gospel around the world, so that thousands would be saved. A girl who survived sexual abuse as a child grew up to become a woman of faith whose story rescues others. There are simply too many examples for the church to worry about what it worries about.

Take it to Jesus. Walk in humility, admit you don’t know everything, stop being defensive of what you think you know and stay in a position of learning. Spend time in His presence, daily spend time in worship. Put the Words He’s spoken in your heart and walk in the Spirit, walk supernaturally while you’re living in the flesh, and become aware of Him, KNOW HIM, know His character, and adopt it. Be like Jesus. Free of fear of men’s opinions, free of the power of sin and death to destroy you, free of the fear of man, even when that man is your friends, your family, your pastor, or yourself. In fact, don’t be afraid at all. Live well instead and be yourself. He made you to be you. You don’t have to measure up. Submit to His Lordship, be willing to change, and rejoice.

“I will answer your cry for help every time you pray, and you will find and feel my presence even in your time of pressure and trouble. I will be your glorious hero and give you a feast.” (Psalms 91:15)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
