Absolute Life

"When we can read Isaiah or Jeremiah, Daniel or Revelation, and He is the same God who sent His Son as life to the world, then we know Him."

THEY SAY in a room of absolute silence you can’t hear nothin’. It’s complete silence. In the same way, absolute zero is the complete absence of heat. It’s unlivable for any natural being, although according to scientists, it increases chemical reactions. We can’t fathom any substance being “all” or “complete” and having no adulteration. The air we breathe is a mix of pure and impure molecules. Any body of water is identifiable because of the impurities in it. Crimes have been solved by the diatoms in the water.

Our beautiful God is absolute good. There is nothing NOT good in Him. He is absolute truth. He cannot tell a lie or make a false promise. He is absolute life. He has no death in Him. Heaven and His throne room are complete life. There is no sin, sickness, disease, or poverty there. None. Jesus came to bring the will of heaven to earth. He came as a manifestation of the Father, who He said was greater than Him. He came to bring the Holy Spirit, absolute power, to earth.

When Jesus stood at the tomb of Lazarus, He told those witnessing the miracle that He was THE Resurrection and THE Life. To go all Rick Renner on you, this tiny word is very important. The word “the” means “the definite article.” He was not A Resurrection, indiscriminate, nor A Life, one of many. He was THE, or all there was, the complete form of it. He is absolute life. He is called the Second Adam in Paul’s epistle. This paints a picture for us because the first Adam sinned, and death entered the world. The Second Adam, Jesus Christ, did not sin, so in Him was no death and therefore the stupid fathead of death, the devil, had no control over Him. None. Zippo. Nada. Zilch.

Jesus said, “Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again (John 10:17).” He had to release His spirit man in order for His body to die (Mark 15:37). Because He was THE Resurrection and THE Life, this was only a physical death, not a spiritual one. In Him was life and life more abundantly (John 10:10). Abundant life. Absolute life. Men would have Him suffer spiritually at the hand of the devil, but HE DID NOT. The life in Him overwhelmed the darkness and rode triumphant over all the works of the enemy (1 John 3:8).

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;”
(Hebrews 2:14)

It is the life in Him that recreates us as new beings. It is His life that heals the mind and restores the physical body. He is the life that holds all things here together. His beloved disciple, John, tells us this in John 1. He is the Word. He is God. He was in the beginning. He created all things. In Him was life and the life was the light of all men. We believe this but then we make Him angry and temperamental. We make Him tolerant of the work of the devil, a user of it even, to further His own ends.

But the Word is clear. With His absolute life, He defeated all of death, and He is unchanging, forever the same.

We must change our thought pattern. To know Him, we must properly represent Him from Genesis to Revelation. Where our human thinking pictures Him as condemning, we remember Romans 8:1. He gives no condemnation. Where our human thinking says He brought destruction upon people, we remember John 3:16. And we say to ourselves, “If His image does not look like the God of peace, the God of all comfort, the God of absolute life, then I need revelation of what I’m not seeing properly.”

When we can read Isaiah or Jeremiah, Daniel or Revelation, and He is the same God who sent His Son as Life to the world, then we know Him. When Old Testament wording does not trip us up but, instead, enhances His kindness, His generosity, then we have become one with Him.

He doesn’t bring disaster, but to choose to live outside of Him, without Him, is disaster. Obed-edom is an example. David left the ark of the covenant, the place of the presence of God (the Holy Spirit), in the house of Obed-edom and suddenly Obed-edom is raking in prosperity by truckfuls. Joseph is another example. Wherever he was placed in Egypt, even in the prison, he prospered and ended up running things. Now, compare these to the Philistines who stole the ark and left it in with their god Dagon. Suddenly fake-gon is on his face and all the Philistines have fanny troubles.

Outside of our loving God, there is no love. He is the source of it. Outside of Him, there is no self-control. The Holy Spirit has more self-control than any other being or everything would not exist. Outside of God, there is no hope because He is the reason we are hopeful. We know Him and believe in His faithfulness. Isaiah 55:9 tells us His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, yet in Ephesians 1:3, He has given us all blessings in heavenly places. He bids us to think like He does, to understand the kingdom of God from His perspective.

He is the answer to all things. When we seek Him, then all that we need is fulfilled. Abraham believed in Him so absolutely that even being 100 years of age, it was not ridiculous to have a baby. He knew God so well that even if he had to sacrifice that son on an altar, he said God would resurrect him. He had no doubt of the fulness of Him, though Jesus Christ, who is the fulness of God, would not be born for many generations. How much greater should our trust in Him be, we who have the Scriptures and the image of His death and Resurrection to guide us?

The bread and the wine are communion. Communion is “intimate communication.” It is us knowing Him as well as He knows us. This is what He has made possible. And in that place of intimacy, we find nothing but light, we have only love, and our cup overflows with life. It is no wonder then that His goodness and mercy follow us all of our lives. Because He is absolute. There is nothing else in Him but ALL, and all He does, all He thinks, all He chooses, all He knows is for our benefit and blessing.

"As you come to Him, the living stone, rejected by men but chosen and precious in God’s sight, you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 2:4-5 BSB)

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." (1 Peter 2:9 BSB)
