Rest

"Our rest comes from knowing God's Word."

GOD IS NOT FICKLE. Where His Word says He “changed His mind,” it does not mean He was undecided. He decided to redeem mankind from before the foundation of the world and then, the plan already in play, He sat down IN FAITH and rested. Nothing about the salvation of His creation was in doubt.

We are also invited to rest. But how much faith does that take? Well, who are we resting with? Adam rested with Elohim, not worried about life. We rest in Christ with that same confidence.

We think we need to get all our ducks in a row first. In order to rest, we must work hard and then we can relax. But this is man’s mentality. God thinks in the opposite. He says to rest first then do what He asks in faith. Rest in Him, knowing whatever you need to accomplish the task – wisdom and revelation, strength and courage, finances, time – He will provide it. There lies our rest. We rest in that He accomplished our salvation and left nothing out of it.

He rested that it was all done on Day 7, Week 1.

You cannot rest and be in unbelief. The Israelites tried that in the wilderness. They rebelled against God’s promise of provision and a bountiful future, and so they continued wandering for forty years until an entire generation had died. God had parted the Sea and drowned the enemy. He’d said Canaan was theirs to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, yet face-to-face with grapes the size of a man’s head in a land that flowed with milk and honey, all they saw were the giants and their supposed inability to get rid of them.

Their inability was the point of God’s promise. He would drive the enemy out. He would bring them into the Promised Land. He would keep His Word. They had only to rely on Him and rest.

Minister Benny Hinn said of the 2,500 prophecies in the Bible, 2,000 of them have been fulfilled. God has kept every word. The others are to be fulfilled. And they will be fulfilled. We can rest on that. We can also rest on our place in it. God’s children, those who have made Jesus Savior and Lord, have a bright future full of His abundant life.

There is no fear in Him, so there is no fear in us. There is no anxiety in Him, so there is no anxiety in us. There is great courage in Him, so there is great courage in us. There is great peace in Him, so there is great peace in us. He is the Healer, the Rescuer, the Deliverer, so we are healed, rescued, and delivered. He is full of joy, so His joy lives in us. Only when we don’t know these things, do we struggle. Only when we forget them.

Our rest comes in knowing His Word. Then when the enemy comes in like a flood, or a trickle, or a buzz in your ear, you have the Sword of the Spirit in your mouth and can wield it. You rest because you know what He’s said about this, and you know His power backs you up. He backs you up. There is our belief, that His Word can divide what we feel, what we think, from the Truth in us, and God, knowing our intent, knowing us fully, will cause His Word that we have spoken to accomplish what He’s sent it to do.

He isn’t fickle, and He isn’t confused. He isn’t having to think up what to do next. He stated it all far in advance and put it in print so that we will never have to live outside of His rest. That’s right. It’s a permanent thing. We can, in fact, be rested every day for the remainder of our physical lives. We can live in heaven on the earth because the God of heaven lives in us and comes upon us to empower us to BE RESTED.

Not lazy. Not foolish. But so filled with the love of God and the Word of God that we simply can’t think outside of the rest He’s given us. We no longer know what it’s like to be stressed anymore but instead, we preach a gospel of peace through our words and our actions that draws all men unto Him.

“For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.” (Hebrews 4:3-4)
