He Knew

"He knew how long He would suffer, knew who would pound the nails, knew who would gamble for His clothing, knew the man who would lay Him in his grave."

THE CROSS WAS A SPECIFIC EVENT. Not random. Not happenstance. Nor done in confusion of people or circumstances. Jesus was THE MESSIAH, THE CHRIST, planned for man’s redemption before the foundation of the world. Before sin came, redemption was set in order. On a cross in Jerusalem.

The human body was formed in God’s likeness so that Jesus could be born in Bethlehem. The body was designed to function, so that the blood would become the cleansing for all sin. And after His Resurrection, the blood having done its function, He was raised to life in a body glorified, incorruptible, flesh and bone eternal in the heavens.

Every word Jesus spoke was the Father’s. Not one word out of place. Every person He healed was at the Father’s hands. Not one forgotten, not one a mistake. Every footstep He made was the fulfillment of prophecy spoken over generations. The life He lived was what He’d planned for Him, what He desired of Him, what He knew He would covenant.

He fulfilled God’s promise to Abraham that His Seed would bless the earth. He fulfilled God’s promise to Israel that from them would come the One who’d save all men. He fulfilled God’s promise to King David that his offspring would sit on his throne forever. Specific promises, made to specific people, for a definite fulfillment that came in Him.

All of these were set in order down to the finest detail.
Jesus’ birth was planned to Mary, a virgin, espoused to Joseph. Jesus’ lineage chosen from adam to Rahab and through a line of Judean kings. Each one a known individual. Some not godly, some not living for the Lord who’d made them. His body was drawn from men’s imperfections, his ancestry those of both low and high degree. A King crowned forever from a people scattered and gathered and scattered and gathered again.

He knew those who would crucify Him, knew the manner of it, knew what it would cost. He knew how long He would suffer, knew who would pound the nails, knew who would gamble for His clothing, knew the man who would lay Him in his grave. He knew those who would come to place spices upon Him, knew the soldiers who would guard the tomb. Knew the one who would betray Him and walked with Him daily, aware of this truth.

He knew the children who passed so that He would survive His childhood. Knew them all by name. He knew the King who would destroy them and loved him anyway. He knew the Wise Men who would travel to worship Him, knew the distance they would come. He planned the star that would guide them and the stable He would lie in.

Nothing, not one person, not one event, not one outcome was not outlined before Him. Not one moment was out from beneath His Father’s gaze. He knew in that moment of first creation, when life was breathed into man, what it would require. He knew when woman was formed and given to adam, of all their union would cause among men. He knew their offspring and their offspring’s offspring. He knew how they would sin. He knew what it would require to destroy it, and already had the solution designed and appointed for Him.

He became redemption to destroy the enemy. He became salvation to bring God to earth in men. He rose as Resurrection to place us in heavenly places. He was crowned King of all, across the ages, because of a life on earth created for Him.

Before time, He committed to do what He’d promised, to live when He would, to die as He did. He is God, but He came as Jesus of Nazareth. He is Savior, but He became brother, Father, and friend. He is Christ, and God’s Spirit is one with Him, yet He lives within broken, sinful men. On purpose. Not because it just happened. But for a reason He chose, in a manner He designed, for a people He loved before ever they came into being.

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:51-54)

“Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.” (Philippians 3:21)

“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” (1 John 3:2)
