United

"We cannot separate ourselves from the task these brave men set out before us."

IT TOOK DEATH TO UNITE US. Men had to commit to die in order to form a more perfect union. They committed their lives and their liberties to Providence in order to secure the pursuit of happiness for every man, every woman, every child born and unborn. From their dedication was formed the fabric that would fly atop the mast, their footsteps blazing a trail held together by a song, an anthem, penned while bombs burst in air.

War began us. War would divide us. North from South. Fourscore and seven years after our forefathers brought forth on this Continent a new nation, the Liberty conceived in their consecration spilled blood between brothers, and death would unite us again. Behind a cause, that in that great civil war, endurance would come from a portion of a field that had become a final resting place.

War divided us. Death united us, time and time again. Always with the premise that what was declared independent in 1776, was not too frayed by the protests nor too fragile from the losses to stand on its own. And though the world would forever note was said there, there remained for the living a dedication to the unfinished work which the lives lost had so nobly advanced.

War divides us. Death unites us. Those that gave of their all to purchase, for some, an unknown plot, binds itself to the promise made by those who’d sailed this far in search of freedom. Whose appeal to heaven, believed a blessing from the mighty God would protect their fortunes and sacred honor.

We cannot separate ourselves from the task these brave men set out before us. What they saw in these states, what they envisioned as held by the God of heaven is strengthen by Him still. And though the winds blow, and the mountains shake, through the dawn’s early light, we glimpse her proud banner still and pledge ourselves to the Supreme Judge of the world.

That a government, for the people, by the people will not perish from the earth.
