Mind and Spirit

“Spirit can be known only by spirit—God’s Spirit and our spirits in open communion. Spiritually alive, we have access to everything God’s Spirit is doing…” (1Co 2:14-16 MSG)

THE MIND CANNOT change the mind. That is like spinning in endless circles. There is intelligence of the mind in men, but an intelligent man is not a spiritual strong nor an aware one unless He is plugged into the Spirit. To hear from God, to hear Him speak and know His voice, we must plug into the Spirit and stay plugged in. We must make the effort.

It is like plugging a refrigerator into an empty hole in the wall. Unless there is an electrical outlet there, we will not get the refrigerator to come on. And for it to run requires a certain amount and strength of electricity. You cannot plug the mind into God and receive anything spiritual. They are not compatible. You must plug in your spirit and allow the thoughts of the Holy Spirit to change (renew) the thoughts of the mind.

Here are the words of the Savior, “Take heed WHAT you hear.” (Mk 4:24) What are you hearing? What are you listening to? I may enjoy certain songs or television shows, but they will not help me speak to God, and that is of far more value. When my mind is anxious and fearful, frustrated or overworked, and I feel like putting it on the figurative shelf, it is my hearing from God and His taking the time to speak to me that puts me back together again.

This is the God we serve. He is living and speaking within our hearts to change us from the inside out, and our time spent in His Word listening to His Spirit is the key. Read the Word. Renew your mind according to the Word and start thinking like the Spirit of the Word.
