He Is Faithful

A singer, inspired to worship, sang a line that will not leave my thinking. It repeats in my head and, as a result, has sunk into my heart.

“He that started a good work in you is faithful. He that started a good work in you is faithful.”

These are the promises of the Scriptures, but we don’t believe them. Not really. (Php 1:6; Heb 10:23) I mean, after it has rained nonstop for a solid week, we doubt the blaring sunshine in our eyes on day eight. Surely, it will dim, and the clouds will take over again.

With the current state of affairs, as gas prices climb, as liberty teeters in the balance, and a communist agenda pulses on our doorstep, as our “leaders” make faulty … WRONG … decisions, lit by corruption and demonic ideology, we’re that person squinting upwards, wishing for the sun but not believing it will shine.

Except I know that I know that I know that God is faithful. HE IS FAITHFUL. The work He has begun, He will bring to a “flourishing finish.” (Php 1:6 MSG) “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it,” it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:24.

He is FAITHFUL. He is FAITHFUL. Our eternal, everlasting heavenly Father is superabundantly, crazily faithful.

You understand what this means, right? He can only BE FAITHFUL because He NEVER STOPS BEING FAITHFUL. One implies the other.

Back to that analogy of the sun. What does it say in Genesis?

“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, AND FOR SEASONS, AND FOR DAYS, AND YEARS.” (Genesis 1:14)

The cycle of the sunrise and sunset is, in itself, an image of God’s faithfulness. Although the clouds may cover the sun from time to time, the sun is still there, and the moon rises every night, even if we can’t see it during certain times of the month.

Look also at the tides. God promised the ocean would come no further upon the land, and hasn’t it always been that way? (Job 38:11)

Our problem in believing Him is that men and women are not faithful, so we judge God by their faulty standards. We consider some human’s iffy track record and filter the promises in His Word through mental reasonings and personal experiences, and He comes out full of flaws. But this is the God of the universe, we’re talking about. He made the earth with His words, and it remains in process today.

If we can accept this fact, then what stops us from believing He is truly faithful? There are times when we must stop trying to figure things out and choose simply to believe. So humans aren’t faithful, so someone let you down, the God of heaven and earth will not. He isn’t looking for a way out of being FAITHFUL. “Oh, good, they messed up. Now, I don’t have to do it.” No. No. No. It’s the other way around. “They messed up. Now, I get to forgive them!” He looks forward to it. He DESIRES to be FAITHFUL. He LOVES fulfilling His Word.

He is FAITH-FULL.

Faith is believing in God’s character. It’s seeing what He desires to do instead of the chaos around you. Your faith is full because He is faithful, and you know it so well that there isn’t any room for doubt anymore. It is in this state that miracles happen because God LOVES faith, and He’s faithful to answer the prayer of faith. He is pleased by faith. (Heb 11:6) Because our faith means we trust Him. It means we believe in His goodness.

And that’s really all He asks, our trust that He always, in every circumstance, has our best interests and superabundant successes at heart. We know that He is FAITHFUL, and we believe, one-hundred-and-ten percent, He will do everything He has promised.
